Alphaloop Expansion- Linking more key areas in Alpharetta

Late last year the city finalized details for a $15.2 million extension of the Alpha Loop. Work began late fall to connect the east and west sections of Alpharetta’s multi-use trail. This phase of work will be one of the most essential sections of Alpha Loop so far, because of the connectivity and momentum it will bring to the project. The latest route will stretch from Old Milton Parkway to Northwinds Parkway, connecting to the Atley residential development, Westside Parkway, and the Northwinds office campus. Plans for the approximately 1-mile route include a 360-foot-long pedestrian bridge over wetlands and a 144-foot-long tunnel underneath Westside Parkway. Alpharetta City Council recently signed off on reducing North Point Parkway from six lanes to four and installing 12-inch sidewalks on either side.

The Alpha Loop trail system, launched in 2016, will eventually connect the city’s most active areas — Downtown Alpharetta, Avalon, Northwinds, and North Point. When completed, the trail system will include an approximately 4-mile inner loop and a 7-mile outer loop. The loop will one day offer a host of amenities beyond the multi-purpose trail, like relaxation pods, educational areas for kids, and habitats for native Georgia species
